The courses provided at Benevolent Care Centers are Medication Administration Certifications 1, 2, and 3 in the field of Developmental Disabilities(DD). Our course will certify you to administer medication in the State of Ohio in DD fields, homes, and facilities. These certifications do not permit you to pass medication in non-DD nursing homes or care facilities nor will they certify you in any other state other than the State of Ohio.
Your certification is valid for one year minus a day after becoming certified. For example, if you received your certification on 5/20/2022, then you will not expire until 5/19/2023.
To Renew your certification you must be less than 60-days expired, receive two (2) continued educational hours or CEUs, and receive a skill check on all skills ordered at the site you are working at.
You can register for a renewal course here on our website under the "registration tab", select Certification 1 Renewals" and select your available date from the calendar. Follow all normal registration procedures from there.
Courses offered by Benevolent Care Centers ONLY certify you to pass medications in DODD field in the State of Ohio. These certifications will NOT credential you to work in other states, to become certified in another state you must taking training under that state's policies and training guidelines which can differ greatly from state to state.
You can manually look for your certificate status in the Department of Developmental Disabilities' (DODD) Search Tool at:
https://mais.prodapps.dodd.ohio.gov/MAIS_PublicAccess.aspx
If your name is not present on the website that will mean your certification is no longer valid.
It is strongly recommended to start the registration process 1-2 months before expiring to ensure you get a spot in a renewal class. This would give you two opportunities to renewal your certification as we schedule our renewal courses on a monthly basis. However, you have a 60-day grace period from your expiration date to renew your certificate.
Benevolent will add additional classes if there is a need but require an enrollment of at least 3 students to do so.
No. After you expire you cannot pass any medication or perform any of the health related activities until you renew your certification.
This extends to Add-On Certifications (Certification 2 and 3) as well. If your Certification 1 expires you CANNOT use your Certification 2 or 3, even if 2 and 3 are not yet expired.
